Fishing News
June 28 2007
The Skeena river is still higher than normal, the water does not have the desired visibility that we usually enjoy this time of year. There are fishing opportunities at the mouths of some tributaries as fresher, clean water mixes in with the Skeena.
The Tyee test fishery is showing good numbers of Chinook returning to the Skeena, along with some sockeye showing up. With the high water levels access to fishing spots is greatly decreased as there are really not many gravel bars showing themselves. Fishing from the boat will give the best opportunities right now. Just set the anchor and plunk out a spinning-glo with some roe and as we say….hurry up and wait.
This fishing season will be exciting as we will have a new river to fish. When we experience a high water, actually a disastrous flood, the river goes thru many changes. Old fishing spots can be gone and new ones are dredged out from the bottom and shore. Where there were once log jams you may now have steep banks. and the gravel bars of last year can be covered in wood. New channels appear and old routes are gone.
This is a strong reason to be guided while on vacation and not spend your time looking for the hot spots. Let the guides from GOLIATH GUIDING SERVICES take you out and let you experience the day of fishing you came here for.
The Kitimat river is producing some Chinook salmon and is as busy as a Walmart parking lot on half price off days….
For those that want to venture there on there own you have my condolences… for the anglers that are interested in a guided float trip in a drift, drop us a line and the arrangements will be made for you.
That’s it for now
We wish you tight lines, from the guides at GOLIATH GUIDING
